PITRASIS ROSEA

It is a self-limiting table that dermatologists can easily recognize with its special morphological appearance.

The first rash on the body, which we previously called the herald, ‘medallion plaque’ appears, followed by a miniature-like rash of the first herald rash in places that fit the skin folds, such as a Christmas tree. It usually regresses within 6 -12 weeks.

Although it occurs most frequently during seasonal transitions, it can also be observed due to viral infections. In particular, we can see our trend virus before or after the COVID virus.

It usually does not cause symptoms or complaints. But; In some patients, itching may occur and may increase with scratching, rubbing, or rubbing.

Treatment; usually no treatment is required. However, if it is very common and symptomatic, itching pills and cortisone cream treatments can be given. Phototherapy, acitretin and systemic cortisone treatments may be required in recurrent and resistant cases.

Moreover ; Infectious diseases such as HIV, syphilis and fungus should also be considered in treatment-resistant cases.

What should not be done during treatment?

The first messenger should avoid the skin-irritating bath from the moment the rash appears, washcloths should not be used in the bathrooms, care should be taken not to irritate the skin, it should not be scratched, and soft and cotton clothes should be preferred. If there is no improvement or reduction in a period of more than two months, it should be re-examined by a dermatologist.

Will there be any scars after the disease?

In most of the cases that regress spontaneously without complaints, they heal without scarring. But; In severe cases, what we call ‘lichenification and post-inflammatory pigmentation’ may develop due to scratching or skin irritation and scarring may occur.
