Especially in adolescence, when appearance is very important, the appearance of acne negatively affects mental health. It destroys one’s self-confidence. Pimples that appear or continue in adulthood also lead to deterioration of external appearance and loss of self-confidence.

Acne is a disease of oily skin. It is more common in adolescence. Acne is also frequently encountered in diseases such as hormonal fluctuations, Polycystic Ovary Disease (PCO), Adrenal hyperplasia. Acne can be exacerbated during stressful periods and especially in women due to premenstrual hormonal changes.


Since acne creates an unpleasant appearance on the face, people with acne often want to cover this situation with foundation and powder. This makes the situation more difficult. It causes more oily face and increases acne breakouts.

The second most common mistake is squeezing pimples. If you squeeze your pimples, a bigger and worse acne will come back. In addition, the risk of scarring from the squeezed acne is very high.


Acne is a condition that casts a shadow over a person’s face and beauty. Especially in adolescence, acne problem can create serious mental problems.

Outside of puberty, acne can affect young women especially commonly. In young women, being liked by the opposite sex, looking beautiful, career, business life, etc. In life, these intense acne and scars affect women.

As stress increases, acne increases and the increase in acne creates stress. that is, a vicious circle that increases each other occurs. In women with acne, difficulties in social relations, social phobia, malaise, depression can be seen.

Studies have shown that people with acne are more irritable. Because of acne, their self-confidence has decreased. Depression is very common due to the deterioration of the external appearance.

Acne sometimes seriously affects mental health; These people avoid eye contact, try to cover their faces by lengthening their hair. They squat. Some young girls, on the other hand, use intense concealer foundation and powder to avoid the appearance of acne, although they know that they increase their acne.

They can seem pretty shy. Therefore, they may be found different and repulsive by other people. Some may even develop social phobia.

Some acne patients are reluctant to go to school. Others risk their education and future careers by dropping out of school.

Acne even reduces career options. They cannot prefer jobs based on appearance. It will be a disadvantage for them to be spotty in works such as visual arts, cinema, acting, modeling.

Acne patients run the risk of being less successful in job applications. They are insecure. They may fail to impress the recruiters.

Eating oily food, nuts, chocolate increases acne. There is no scientifically proven data between food and acne. Of course, eating fast food and eating unhealthy will negatively affect acne. However, we cannot show nutrition as the cause of acne. However, eating healthy is beneficial for our skin health as well as for our whole health.

–The sun is good for acne. A little sun is good for all our health. However, it is wrong to sunbathe enough to burn and to believe that acne will go away with the sun. On the contrary, it can cause spots and acne to become worse.
