Causes of hair loss

Hair forms an important part of people’s physical appearance. In some people, external appearance and negative thoughts due to hair loss cause psychological problems and affect the quality of life.

The most common cause of hair loss is male pattern hair loss called androgenetic alopecia. Here, there is a shrinkage in the hair sockets prone to baldness, triggered by the male hormone. It can be seen in both sexes in men and women. However, it occurs in different styles and clinical appearance.

Hair loss in women can occur at any time after puberty. But it usually becomes more evident after the birth, during the menopause period. In some people, diffuse hair loss can cause a decrease in hair density on the entire scalp. However, it does not result in complete baldness in most cases. In men, androgenetic alopecia starts from the forehead hairline, thinning of the hair in the crown area occurs.

Although the cause of hair loss is attributed to a clear genetic transition, the most common causes of hair loss are:

-Endocrine Diseases: Thyroid gland diseases (hypo/hyperthyroidism), postpartum period, menopause and postmenopausal period, pregnancy, diabetes (diabetes)
-Nutrition disorders: Biotin, iron, protein, zinc deficiency, calorie-restrictive diets.
-Medicines: Birth control pills, excess vitamin A, some fungicides, anticoagulants, interferon, lithium, retinoids, etc.

-Anemia,
-Surgical procedures,
-Systemic diseases (cancers, liver diseases, infectious diseases, etc.)
-Mechanical operations: frequent blow-drying, bad brushing, pulling hair)
-Chemical operations (inappropriate shampoo, dye, perm, bleaching operations)
-Psychological stress,
-Sea water, sun rays, chlorine in pool water damage the hair structure.

Healthy hair is soft, shiny and easily shaped because of the keratin layer that surrounds it. If the damaged hair is left to itself for various reasons, this damage gradually accumulates and the hair falls out. Then, new hair comes back in its place in the natural cycle of the hair. It is inevitable that the hair will normally suffer some damage. But regular hair care and proper use of hair cosmetics help reduce this damage. However, a dermatologist should be consulted when necessary.

Not only hair loss, but also hair breakage, dryness or excessive oiliness, split ends, decrease in the shine of the hair, etc. Hair problems can be a symptom of serious diseases and sometimes even systemic diseases.

Normal hair care

Hair is a multi-layered, highly complex biological structure formed by molecules called keratin sticking together with tight bonds. Keratin molecules contain many amino acids such as cysteine, serine, and arginine. In the structure of the hair, other than keratin proteins, there are oils and 20% water. The structure, elongation and development of the hair, which is a biological structure, is affected by nutrition, especially the adequate intake of protein and vitamins with food, and hormones. The prerequisite for the maintenance of normal hair is a regular diet that meets the protein and vitamin requirements and a lifestyle that complies with general health rules. In addition to the harm of smoking on general health, it is known that it also harms hair health.

For hair cleaning, water at a temperature that will not destroy the keratin structure should be used. Shampoos with skin pH should be used. Shampoo duration should not exceed one or two minutes. Warm air should be used while drying the hair. On long, wavy or hardened hair, conditioner applications provide slipperiness on the hair surface and reduce the breakage on the hair surface.

Healthy hair is shiny, smooth in appearance and easy to shape. Hair may lose its health in cases such as genetic factors, age, cosmetic applications, malnutrition, stress and disruption of hormonal balance.

Dry hair causes and care

Dry hair is used to describe hair that lacks sufficient moisture and oil content to maintain its normal shine and texture. Dry hair may occur due to excessive washing, harsh detergents, dry or different environment, unsuitable diet or some underlying diseases.

The most common causes:
