The nose is the most important element that determines the aesthetics of the facial area. Nose aesthetics, which constitutes the most special surgery group in the field of aesthetic surgery, is called rhinoplasty in the medical language. Nose aesthetic surgery is applied to give a new shape to the nose. The tip of the nose can be raised and lowered, the tip of the nose can be thinned and sharpened, or vice versa, it can be thickened, if there are curvatures in the nose, it can be corrected, if the nasal ridge is sunken, it can be filled, the hump can be removed, the nostrils can be reduced if they are large, and if there is asymmetry, they can be corrected. In addition to the problems related to the shape of the nose, internal cartilage and bone curvatures called septum deviation, and if there is breathing difficulty due to this, septum deviation surgery is performed together with nasal aesthetic surgery to provide relief in breathing. Ideal rhinoplasty should give the nose a natural shape that is compatible with the face, as well as relieve breathing.
Who is rhinoplasty suitable for?
Nose aesthetics can be done after the end of the developmental period and the final shape of the nose. This corresponds to the average age of 17-18 years. Nasal aesthetic surgery can be applied to people who have nasal shape disorders from this age. The candidate for rhinoplasty should have completed his personality development as well as his physical development. People whose personality is not fully established or who have personality problems are not suitable for nose surgery. The person who will have nose surgery should have the capacity to perceive the facts correctly and should not have unrealistic expectations. Rhinoplasty can be disappointing for imaginative people, for example, for people who want their own nose to look like a person they admire. Because everyone’s face and nose are different, not every nose model is available for every face.
Nose Examination
The most important part of rhinoplasty surgery planning is the nose model design together with the detailed examination. Nasal examination covers both the external view of the nose and the airways inside the nose. With the external examination, the structure of the nasal skin, bone, cartilage shape, symmetry status, position of the nasal tip are evaluated. In the internal examination, it is evaluated whether there is curvature and growth in the internal bones and cartilages, which we call septum deviation, which causes nasal congestion and difficulty in breathing, the condition of the nasal concha, and whether there is any growth.
Ideal Nose Design
Before rhinoplasty, a personalized computerized design must be made in order to determine the nose model that will suit your face. The general shape of your face is based on the design of the nose shape suitable for your face. It is necessary to create a nose model that is compatible with the shape of the forehead, cheeks, lips, chin and suitable for the golden proportions of the face. The most ideal nose is the nose that looks natural and in harmony with the facial features. Natural appearance is the most important element in rhinoplasty surgery. Believing that natural appearance should always be prioritized in rhinoplasty surgery designs, I make personalized designs. After a good rhinoplasty, the nose should be beautiful and should not be understood by others. While making the ideal nose design, elegance should come to the fore in women, while it should be taken into account that it suits the masculine character of men.
Nasal Congestion
The septum is the cartilage between both nostrils and the septum that turns into a bone structure as it gets deeper. The deviation of the septum to the right or left is called septum deviation. Most people have a deviation of the septum. The majority of people with septum deviation are not aware of this situation. Septum deviation manifests itself when it causes congestion in the nose or creates a curved appearance when viewed from the outside. In case of deviation, one of the nostrils narrows while the other nostril becomes wider. This inequality is reflected in the amount of air passing through the nostrils. More air passes through the wide side, less air passes through the narrow side. The body begins to enlarge the conchae on the wide side to balance the air passage. Over time, both nostrils become blocked. All these problems that may be encountered during the internal examination of the nose should be determined and included in the surgery plan. Remember that a good rhinoplasty should also ease breathing.
Nose job
Rhinoplasty is an operation that should be performed under general anesthesia. All surgeries that require general anesthesia are performed in the appropriately equipped hospital, in the operating room environment. The duration of the operation varies between 1 and 4 hours, depending on the size of the problem in the nose. During the nose surgery, the bones and cartilages are shaped according to the model determined in the design. Accordingly, if there are excess bones and cartilages, they are removed, if there are deficiencies or dimples, they are filled with bone and cartilage pieces. In the application of rhinoplasty, each surgeon has his own unique technique that he is used to. I never break bone structures while they are being formed. Since shaping the bones by breaking creates additional damage, it increases the complaints such as pain, swelling and bruising after the surgery. However, cutting and shaping the bones with thin, sensitive chisels, just like a sculptor does, increases the quality of the surgery, ensures that the surgery is more controlled, prevents the emergence of unwanted surprises, and also minimizes pain, swelling and bruising. I also do not place tampons inside the nostrils at the end of the surgery. In this way, it is possible to breathe easily through your nose after the surgery. At the end of the surgery, I place a plastic mold on the outside to preserve the shape given to your nose. This mold stays in your nose for 1 week.
After Nose Surgery
The period after the rhinoplasty surgery will be quite comfortable, you will not feel too much trouble that you have had the surgery. There may be mild pain that most people can easily bear, and it can be easily relieved with painkillers. If you feel well, you can return home in the evening of the same day, or if you want to rest, you can spend the night in the hospital. You spend the recovery period standing. Bed rest will not be required. During this time, you can go out and wander around. There will not be too much swelling and bruising on the nose and around the eyes. The swelling may increase slightly for the first 1-2 days, then quickly decrease and disappear within 1 week. If bruising has occurred, it will disappear completely within 1 week. When you come to your control after 1 week, when the plastic mold in your nose will be removed, all swelling and bruising will be resolved, and you can return to your normal life as if you had never had an operation. It takes at least 6 months for the shape of your nose to fully settle, and you will see its true shape after at least 6 months. By the way, in the first months, you need to protect your nose from impacts and sunlight, and use lenses instead of glasses.
