Rhinoplasty (Nose Aesthetics)

We can say that it is the most frequently performed surgery among aesthetic surgeries and it is also the most difficult one. Because the anatomy of the nose is quite complex. In addition to aesthetics, it also has functional importance.

Before Surgery

In the pre-operative examination and preliminary interview; What is the patient’s expectation from this surgery, what kind of nose does he want to have? Is it compatible with the desired nose face? is evaluated. Making a beautiful nose alone may not always be enough. For example, if the lower jaw is behind, it may be necessary to fill these areas. Again, in thick and scaly skin types (ie, fleshy noses), there is no chance of thinning the nose too much, so it is necessary to adjust the ridge of the nose accordingly. The general risks and possible outcomes of the surgery are explained to the patient. It is decided whether the operation will be performed under general or local anesthesia. Preoperative analyzes are studied according to your type of anesthesia and the preparation for the operation is completed. It is recommended not to take blood thinners and not to drink herbal tea before the surgery.

Operation

There are closed and open techniques in surgery. We choose which technique to apply according to the patient’s examination findings and the procedure to be performed. For example, a blockage in the airways with rhinoplasty; If there is a growth in the deviation turbinates, it is also intervened in the same session.

Postoperative

One night hospitalization may be required after surgery. If the bone structure is intervened, there is a silicone nasal packing for 1 or 2 days and a plaster cast for 1 week. In some cases, only the cartilage structure and the tip of the nose are intervened without touching the bone roof. Plaster is not applied to these patients and bandage is sufficient for 4-5 days. There may be swelling and bruises on the face in the first week. It goes away within 10 days. It takes 6 months to 1 year for the nose to take the form of completely dissolving the edema (setting the nose).

We can say that it is the most frequently performed surgery among aesthetic surgeries and it is also the most difficult one. Because after this process, there is a permanent change in the face and you have no chance to hide the slightest mistake. The anatomy of the nose is quite complex. In addition to aesthetics, it also has functional importance. For this reason, the preliminary interview with the patient becomes even more important in this surgery. The harmony of the nose with the face is evaluated. This situation is shared with the patient. For example, thick and scaly skin types (ie fleshy noses) do not have the chance to thin the nose too much. Or people with protruding or backward lower jaws may require intervention on the chin for facial harmony.
