Aesthetic nose surgery or “rhinoplasty” (rhinoplasty) is the correction and reshaping of the appearance of the nose. Rhinoplasty, which is one of the most frequently performed aesthetic surgeries in Turkey as well as all over the world, is also one of the surgeries that patients fear the most.
Nose aesthetic surgery is an operation that requires precision and delicacy by the surgeon, because the nose is an organ that directly affects facial expression and also has a vital function such as breathing.
The aim of us plastic surgeons is to create a nose that is both natural and beautiful and compatible with other parts of the face. Even if the nose is given a nice shape, if it is not compatible with the chin, cheekbones and eye areas, it loses its naturalness.
Deformity in the nose may be a result of developmental or subsequent injury. It should not be forgotten that the successful result in aesthetic surgery is closely related to the emotional structure of the person.
How is Nose Aesthetic Surgery Performed?
There are two different techniques in rhinoplasty operations;
-
Open Rhinoplasty
-
Closed Rhinoplasty
In closed rhinoplasty, the scar is not visible because the incision is made through the wings of the nose. Sometimes, in order to narrow the wide nose wings, an inconspicuous scar may remain in the nasal wing fold.
In the open technique, surgery is performed by making an incision of 4-5 mm in the middle section between the nostrils. Since this incision is closed at the end of the operation in accordance with aesthetic rules, the scar never attracts attention and does not cause any problems.
What Should Be Considered Before Surgery?
The most suitable age for aesthetic nose surgery is after the age of 17, when the facial bones have completed their development. An issue as important as age is the person’s full health. As in every plastic surgery, routine examinations should be done before rhinoplasty, if the person smokes, it should be stopped or reduced at least 2-3 weeks in advance, and alcohol should not be consumed a few days before.
The surgeon must have knowledge of the drugs used by the patient and drug allergies, if any.
Duration and Anesthesia in Nose Surgery
Aesthetic nose surgeries can be performed with sedation-assisted local anesthesia or, if desired, with general anesthesia. The operation time is approximately 1.5 hours. However, it may take longer depending on the nature of the surgery. It can also be intervened to relieve nasal congestion when necessary.
During the surgery, the excess bone, cartilage structure and soft tissue are removed and reshaped, and nose defects are removed and a new nose compatible with the face is created. Sometimes it may be necessary to add texture to create the desired shape.
Post-Surgery Recovery Process
A mold is applied to maintain the new shape formed at the end of the surgery and small tampons are placed in the nose.
The postoperative period is generally uneventful, and in operations performed with local anesthesia, the patient is sent home after resting for 1-2 hours. In the operations performed under general anesthesia in the hospital, the patient can be discharged after an average of 8 hours.
In the days after the surgery, patients feel almost no pain. Cold application is recommended to reduce bruising and swelling. Nasal pads are usually removed in 1-2 days, and the mold on the nose is removed on the 7th day, and silk bands can be applied for 4-5 days if necessary.
The bruises around the eyes are minimal and fade away in the days after the surgery and disappear completely in 7-10 days. After the surgery, the patient feels good and can go out within two days.
Post-Surgery Considerations
In the first two months, one should stay away from sports activities, avoid the sun, do not go to the solarium, sauna and enter the pool. After removing the mold on the nose, make-up can be applied to cover the bruises, but glasses should not be used for 2 months.
