Being thin is now a passion. When it is so important to lose weight and look thin, various eating disorders occur. These disorders are divided into three groups by the APA.
1. Anorexia Nervosa
2. Bulimia Nervosa
3. Eating disorders not otherwise specified
divided into three groups.
ANOREXIA NERVOSA
It has also been used to mean a decrease in appetite for nervous reasons. The incidence of Anorexia Neurosa, especially in young girls between the ages of 10-24, is around 0.3%.
It appears in two types. The person starves and exercises excessively, binges in an excessive attack style, and eats or uses laxatives or dysrexia.
The gums are most affected by anorexia, especially in those who completely stop eating, due to the loss of vitamins, the gums begin to become more inflamed and bleed with the loss of the defense mechanism in the gums. A patient with anorexia nervosa, who already has gingival disease, also loses bones, and teeth begin to wobble and even lose.
BULIMIA NERVOSA
After eating, which is also called mannequin disease, those that are eaten with mistakes are removed and provided in this way.
The hydrochloric acid coming from the stomach washes the teeth in the removal of the eaten food with vomiting. The acid retained by the papillae on the surface of the tongue causes mineral loss in the tooth. When tooth tissue loses its mineral structure, the enamel surface wears out over time. The incisors of the front teeth become thinner and take on a glassy appearance. This appearance is called “Perimilolysis”. Over time, these areas also appear in the chewing parts of the teeth. The protruding surfaces of the teeth are flattened and there is a serious loss of substance on the surface of the tooth. The enamel of the tooth cannot protect the tooth by losing its protective feature, and severe sensitivity occurs in cold and hot temperatures.
The fillings present in the mouth lose their female adaptations as a result of acid erosion and swell or begin to rot from the openings. This happens so obviously that it is sufficient to check the structure of the tooth enamel to see if the person’s vomiting behavior has stopped.
Vomiting attacks also increase the formation of caries in the teeth. It also causes sensitivity in the gingival tissues. The structure of the salivary glands is also disrupted.
Cracks, ulcerative lesions occur in the gums, cheeks and soft tissue due to water loss.
Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (BTAYB)
It is an eating disorder that occurs in people who either consume a single type of food or do not eat for 1-2 days and then binge feed.
According to the amount of vitamin and mineral loss, teeth and gums are affected by this situation. People who never eat cheese or do not use milk and dairy products are included in this group. Problems in the mouth progress more insidiously and slowly than other eating disorders. If the person’s oral care is not good, it is generally thought that the problems in the mouth are caused by the habit of brushing. Slowly progressing problems suddenly clear up.
It is best to eat a regular and balanced diet.
I wish you healthy days
