Over time, the thickness and flexibility of the skin in our body is lost. With the melting of the fat tissue under the skin, the weakening of the muscles and bone tissue, the sagging of the skin becomes more pronounced and the skin is pulled down with the effect of gravity.
The amount of adipose tissue accumulated along with the sagging of the skin differs between individuals. For this reason, each patient should be evaluated individually.
Arm lift surgery can be performed alone or in conjunction with other body contouring surgeries (tummy tuck, breast reduction or augmentation, and leg lift).
In the preoperative evaluation, attention is paid to the amount of adipose tissue in the inner and back of the arm and the degree of sagging. The most important point in arm lift surgeries is the scar that will remain. With the methods developed in recent years, the existing scar has decreased to the level to be hidden under the armpit. In order to minimize the postoperative scarring, it is recommended to massage the operation area with steroid creams, and if necessary, a silicone sheet is applied.
In cases where the skin quality is good and there is no sagging, that is, only in cases where fat accumulation is high, successful results are obtained with liposuction (vacuum fat suction). However, if there is sagging skin with excess fat tissue, liposuction alone will be insufficient, and it must be taken too deep. If necessary, liposuction is applied to other parts of the arm in the same session. Arm lift surgery can be performed under general anesthesia as well as under local anesthesia. At the end of the surgery, the arm is wrapped with a soft dressing and the patient can go home approximately 1-2 hours after the procedure. The next day, the bandages are opened and the operation area is checked and the patient wears a special arm corset for three weeks. The patient is advised to keep his arms high and apart from this, there is nothing that needs special attention.
